New Research Shows Playing These Fun Sports Helps Save Your Heart
U.K. researchers examined studies and surveys across England and Scotland and found the top sports and exercises that help protect your heart the most.
Researchers in the United Kingdom examined data spanning from surveys taken between 1994 and 2008. Although there were only 11 surveys total, they involved about 80,000 adult participants.
Here's what they found:
- Participants who played a racket sport, like badminton and tennis, had a 47 percent lower risk of dying from any cause than people who didn't exercise.
- Participants who swam regularly had a 28 percent lower risk of dying from any cause than people who didn't exercise.
- Participants who did dance aerobics had a 27 percent lower risk of dying from any cause than people who didn't exercise.
- Participants who were cyclists had a 15 percent lower risk of dying from any cause than people who didn't exercise.
But when it came to death caused by cardiovascular disease or stroke, racket sport players had a decreased chance of a whopping 56 percent!
If you hate racket sports, here are a few easy ways you can help protect your heart:
Eat Peppers. Chili peppers are rich in capsaicin, which has been found to relieve pain and help stop heart attacks when applied topically. Eating chili peppers everyday can help protect your heart. Doing so also helps you lose weight because capsaicin has been found to boost your metabolism.
Do Aromatherapy With Tea Tree Oils. Using tea tree oils has been found to protect the brain and other parts of the nervous system following a stroke or brain injury. It's been found to lessen brain and nerve cell death after these traumatic events. It's also been found to boost your memory. Aromatherapy with tea tree oils while you sleep has been found to improve the quality of your sleep, especially if you're a heart attack patient. But, according to the UK Gynecomastia Clinics, routine tea tree oil exposure in young boys can cause abnormal enlarging of the breasts – these include tea tree oil soaps and lotions too. It's best not to expose your young boys to tea tree oils to play safe.
Herbal Therapy. Researchers found that some herbs can lower blood pressure in hypertensive patients. They found that buchu, garlic, prickly custard apple, celery, guan mu tong, breadfruit, green oat, tea, and lasaf are among a few that have been found to relieve hypertension by 10 to 30 percent and more depending on the herb. Try taking some of these daily to help keep your blood pressure healthy.
Start going to your local tennis court everyday to lessen your chances of dying from heart disease by almost 60 percent. But if sports aren't up your alley, you can try these three natural remedies to help protect your heart.
