Frozen Peas, Okra by Pictsweet in Walmart and Southeast Recalls
It’s time to mind your frozen peas, okra, and mixed veggies produced by the Pictsweet Company of Bells, Tennessee. The peas and mixed vegetables with peas may contain glass fragments and are sold by Walmarts nationwide and Kroger stores in the southeast. The breaded okra product recall is limited to eight lots distributed in the southeast.
No health problems yet reported with recalled peas or okra
The recall of the frozen peas, peas and carrots, and mixed vegetables was made on October 15 by Pictsweet when the company learned that glass shards might be tossed in with the vegetables in these packages. Although the glass could cause internal injuries if they are ingested, no incidents have been reported thus far.
The frozen peas and frozen pea products in the recall include Kroger 12-ounce Green Peas with UPC 1111089736 and production codes of 1140BU, 1440BV, 1440BW, and 1600BD; Kroger 12-ounce Peas and Carrots with UPC 111089741 and production codes of 1960BD and 1960BE; Great Value 12-ounce Steamable Sweet Peas with UPC 7874208369 and “best by” dates of July 20, 2012 and July 21, 2012; and Great Value 12-ounce Steamable Mixed Vegetables with UPC 7874208026 and “best by” date of July 15, 2012.
Anyone who has purchased any of these frozen pea products should not consume them. Instead, you can return them to the store where they were purchased or contact Pictsweet (see below).
Pictsweet’s recall of breaded okra products was announced on October 14 and includes eight lots of their 32-ounce Clear Bag Breaded Okra. When the company redesigned its label, it neglected to declare that the product contains a milk product. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk may experience serious allergic reactions if they eat this product.
The recalled breaded okra products include those with the production codes beginning with the following five digits: 1400B, 1550B, 1660B, 1730B, 1870B, 2030B, 2350B, and 2500B. All were distributed to retailers in the southeast United States.
