5 Simple Detox Drinks to Boost Energy and Wellness

Detox drinks boost energy

A natural way to boost energy and promote overall wellness is to detox your body with healthful, cleansing beverages. Here are 5 simple detox drinks to try and why they may or may not assist in restoring balance to your body.

Do natural detox drinks work?

Many health experts tout the virtues of detoxification diets and programs, which typically include some type of detox beverages designed to eliminate toxic substances from the body, other professionals are less than enthusiastic. Some practitioners, however, question whether detox beverages and diets actually do what advocates claim they do, although few an refute the nutritional value of many (but not all) detox drinks, especially those that contain fresh (preferably organic) fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

On the positive side of the argument are the authors of 7-Day Detox Miracle, including two naturopaths, who explain that consuming detox drinks as part of a whole body cleans can help eliminate toxins and restore a healthy balance to the body. Another view comes from Andrew Weil, MD, director of integrative medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson, who noted in a WebMD article that “There’s no scientific evidence to support the claims made for [detox diets],” although he is a fan of natural foods, healthful beverages, and taking steps to support the body’s natural detox system.

The following detox drinks contain ingredients that have some cleansing abilities and varying degrees of nutritional value as well. Whether you want to try them for their potential energy boosting powers or as part of a detox diet, you should consult a healthcare provider (or two) who is knowledgeable about nutrition and the science of detoxification.

1 medium cucumber, cut into slices. Peel if not organic. Cucumbers contain erepsin, an enzyme that aids protein digestion and supports kidney function. The peel contains chlorophyll and silicon, which support healthy skin, nails, and hair.
1 lemon, cut into slices. Lemons contain ascorbic acid (vitamin C), which can assist in cleansing
10-12 fresh mint leaves

Steep the cucumber, lemon, and mint in the water in a glass container overnight in the refrigerator. Enjoy the detox beverage throughout the next day or two.
