It started as a normal day for the Harrington family. Morgan and her mother began the Saturday morning of October 17th much the same way they usually do, with making tea, drinking coffee, eating breakfast, and then chatting. However, Morgan also spent a good part of the day showing her mom what she was going to wear to the Metallica concert that night. The day would end in the worst nightmare any parent could dream of. Morgan went missing. The beloved band Metallica joins with her parents in the hunt for missing Morgan Dana Harrington.

On Metallica’s website is the notice that one of their fans went missing. The band states, “We are deeply concerned about the disappearance of 20 year old Virginia Tech student Morgan Dana Harrington, who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday night.” The band has offered between $50,000 to $100,000 in reward money for the safe return of the 20 year old Morgan.

Apparently, the night Morgan went missing, she left the concert to use the restroom. She forgot her ticket stub and was not allowed back in. Her friends state that she called them telling them that she was not being readmitted and she would find a ride home, so not to worry about her. This was the last time that she was heard from. Monday morning police found her purse and cell phone. Her parents, Gil and Dan Harrington, report that she never went anywhere without her cell phone.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the search for Harrington and ask that if anyone has any information to contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3425 or the UVA Police at (434) 352-3467. Please visit the website for finding Morgan for pictures and information about Morgan. Metallica mentions on their website that their thoughts are with Morgan and her family with hopes for her safe return.

Personal safety tips come into mind when thinking about the possible foul play involved with this case. According to the University of Oklahoma Police Department, it is important to have several methods of self-defense. The most important of which is to make lots of noise by screaming, using a whistle, or anything else you can think of, and getting as far away from the attacker as possible. If one technique does not work, try another, and then another to get away. The UOPD reminds everyone that the best strategy for self-defense is to “Escape and Evade”.

Other safety tips include being aware of who is in your environment. Awareness can be the method that saves your life. Always checking the interior of your car before getting in and parking in well-lit areas go a long way towards prevention. Having keys ready before getting in your car can help slow the amount of time it takes for an attacker to approach you. Finally, locking your car whenever you leave it is important. Most importantly, do not accept a ride with someone you do not know.

Morgan has blue eyes, blonde hair, is 5’6” and weighs 120 pounds.
