How to Fight Those Dark Circles Under Eyes
No one likes those dark circles puffing up under the eyes, giving you an overworked and thoroughly unhealthy look. It is often attributed to lack of sleep and drunkenness, but studies have shown that this is not the case.
It’s true that too little sleep gives the skin a dull shade while alcohol thins the skin, but these are not major reasons, especially for constant darkness under the eyes. So what causes under-eye dark circles: the beauty concern expressed by 53% of 13,000 Clinique users surveyed?
• Dr. Diane Berson, an assistant professor of dermatology in Manhattan at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, states that the major cause is genetics.
• Dermatologists agree that excessive pigmentation of the skin, especially among Africans and Indians, is the biggest problem, the blame placed directly on evolution.
• The Mayo Clinic mentions allergies, eczema, nasal congestion, sun exposure and lifestyle factors including` physical and emotional stress, smoking, excessive drinking, etc.
• Health officials at the Columbia University Medical Clinic have stated that the pull of gravity while sleeping horizontally. The pull collects fluids under the eyes, puffing them out and creating shadows to darken underneath.
There are quite a few reasons black circles develop under the female eye especially. • Place more than 1 pillow under your elevated head to ensure gravity doesn’t have as big an impact, according to the University of Columbia. Upon waking, it’s also recommended to place a cold compress, cucumber slices, refrigerated gel mask or cold tea bag on skin under the eyes.
• Airborne allergens that cause blood to pool under eyes can be treated with simple antihistamines, according to Dr. John A. Persing, professor and chief of plastic surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine.
• Daily diet should include fresh fruits, salads, yogurt and sprouts, unprocessed cereals, skimmed milk, cottage cheese, lentils and beans, according to the Times of India newspaper. Coupling this with daily exercise and deep breathing should drastically reduce the look of dark shadows under the eyes.
• Cucumber juice is a great remedy, especially when combined with lemon. It should be applied under the eyes and washed off within 15 minutes. Potato juice mixed with the cucumber is great for puffiness according to the Times of India, while tomato juice alone is said to lighten the colour of the skin under the eye.
A slight change in lifestyle could help with under-eye dark circles. A bit of exercise and lots of stress relief could mean healthy looking features without the look of fuzzy large pests or that of a malnourished third-world born child. There are plenty of natural tips to help replenish energy and bring out the inner glow of beauty.
