Sharing good news may nurture health and happiness
Researchers say that health and happiness can be promoted by sharing good news.
There seems to be an eternal search for happiness among people. One way to promote happiness may be to share good news.
It is beneficial for both the body and mind to hear about something which is positive
The research, presented at the 2017 Society for Personality and Social Psychology Annual Convention suggested that health and happiness can be promoted by sharing good news. Researchers say that it is beneficial for both the body and mind to hear about something which is positive. This promotes better health.
This study was part of a research project called Study for Employment Retention of Veterans (SERVe). It had an objective of focusing on enhancing workplace culture to assist in improving the overall well-being of both service members and of veterans.
The lives of service members are considered to be a lot more challenging than those of other citizens. These people must cope with a great deal of unique challenges both at work and home. Aside from fighting outside of the country they must help during natural disasters among other things. Due to these demands service members are at a greater risk of suffering from problems such as sleep disorders and loneliness.
It has been confirmed by research that problems such as sleep deficiency and loneliness can be lessened by a partner who is supportive and responsive. It is highlighted it is vital for overall good health and a successful professional life to have emotional support, communication and quality sleep.
It's also important to respond in a positive way
Sarah Arpin, who is a social psychologist from Gonzaga University, says it is supported by this study just how vital it is to share good things with your partner when they happen. It's also important to respond in a positive way to the sharing of good news.
According to Arpin when someone shares news which is positive the person who receives this news becomes happy. In this way good feelings are actually intensified in both people. It's very important for the receiver of the good news to respond in a positive way to experience this snowballing of positive feelings. There can be negative consequences if the response to good news is not positive.
Your feelings of joy may be multiplied when you share news of your positive experiences
The British Psychological Society tells us feelings of joy may be multiplied when you share news of your positive experiences. It has been observed by the researchers that it is particularly beneficial to share good news with somebody else. This has a greater impact than simply writing about the good news or simply enjoying having social contact.
It isn't guaranteed that you will gain joy from sharing good news. The response of the person you share this news with has a great impact on your feelings. It's important that the person responds to the good news in a positive way for both parties to benefit from the sharing of the news. So the next time you get good news share it with somebody you care about whom you feel will share positive feelings about this important event.
