In spite of a growing understanding of just how essential good nutrition is to overall good health there remains many people who adhere to very poor dietary habits. These people may not have to suffer very long from the health problems associated with poor nutrition since they are very likely to die from serious illnesses younger than others who adhere to healthy diets. .

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute reports there is a link between a high numbers of deaths from diabetes, heart disease and stroke and poor diets. Researchers say that about 50 percent of all deaths in the United States in 2012 were due to cardiometabolic diseases associated with poor eating habits. These diseases include type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
There has been an association between premature deaths due to cardiometabolic diseases and low consumption of various foods and nutrients which have been recognized as essential for having a healthy life. There has also been found to be an association between premature deaths from these diseases and eating too much food which is not healthy.

It was observed that there was also overconsumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, unprocessed red meats, and processed meats. JAMA has published this study. The researchers have determined that there is an association between dietary factors and a large number of deaths from type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. It is essential to eat more healthy foods and less unhealthy foods to prevent deaths from these diseases.
