ZocDoc Allows Patients to Make Online Doctor Appointments
ZocDoc, a New York-based start-up company, has received additional funding to expand its service of online doctor and dentist appointment bookings. CNet News reports ZocDoc has received a $15 million Series B venture round led by the Founders Fund with additional monies from investor Khosla Ventures.
ZocDoc is the website which offers individuals the ability to find a dentist or doctor and book appointments online instantly. The service is free to the individual. It allows searches by insurance, physician specialty, and physician location.
Currently, the service only covers Chicago, IL, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, and Washington DC. The additional funding will allow the company to expand to other cities.
The company is soliciting users to vote on what its fifth city should be (the options include Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Seattle). Expansion also requires aggregating participating doctors.
ZocDoc started in September of 2007 as a service to help people find and make dentist appointments in New York City. Since then it has expanded to include primary care, dermatologist, eye-specialist, ENT, orthopedist, OB/GYN, allergist, podiatrist, cardiologist, pediatrician, radiologist and psychiatrist appointments.
In addition to the ability to search by insurance and location, the individual can read doctor information and patient reviews.
ZocDoc website states over 200,000 patients per month use the service to find doctors. More than 36% of ZocDoc appointments are made outside of regular office hours and 40% of ZocDoc appointments take place within 24 hours.
