Dieting and weight loss are sometimes difficult. Did you know you can reach your weight loss goals by purchasing one simple item?


Starting an exercise and weight loss program can be simple. All you need to get started is an inexpensive pedometer. Of course, if you have a SmartPhone, there's an app that can track how many steps you get each day.

How many steps a day will help me lose weight?

Once you have your pedometer you'll need a plan to track your weekly steps. You'll need to walk at least 10,000 steps a day to stop weight gain. Many experts suggest 12,000 to 13,000 steps a day for losing weight. If you just think you can't fit that many steps in you can try walking briskly to burn calories.

But the truth is, if you gradually increase your steps you will find yourself shedding pounds and staying healthier simply by walking.

Take your pedometer for a walk

To get to 10,000 steps a day use the twenty percent program. Here's how it works.

  • Wear your pedometer all day until bedtime (except when you're immersed in water, of course)
  • Track your steps for an entire week. For the first week, just do your normal amount of walking.
  • Keep a separate log of other exercises you might have done and places you've visited (e.g. a hike, a walking tour or something out of the ordinary).
  • Take your weekly steps and divide by 7; then multiply by 1.2

Your goal is to boost your steps by twenty percent for the following weeks. Even if you only see a ten percent increase toward getting 10,000 or more steps a day you are moving forward. The important thing to remember is to not be discouraged.

How pedometers help you win at weight loss

Ten thousand steps a day is the equivalent of getting your recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day. Weight loss can be easy when you realize simply getting a pedometer can make such a difference and how to make your device work for you.
