If you’re looking for the best way to lose belly fat and not just weight, Dr. Eric Berg has some advice. Berg, who is chiropractor specializing in weight loss and nutrition says you can burn the most belly fat with intense interval training. The good news is you can start out slowly if you're deconditioned and there are a variety of ways to train for a slimmer waistline.

Berg, who is also an active member of the Endocrinology Society and on the advisory panel for the Health Science Institute, explains interval training burns belly fat because it increases levels of growth hormone by 450%.

The idea is to exercise vigorously in sprints and then rest. Get your heart rate up then wait for it to come back down. To burn off belly fat exercise for about 30 seconds then rest for around 3 minutes; then repeat. Since everyone is different, interval and recovery times can vary, so listen to your body and adapt your training according to your own fitness level.

Any type of exercise, including cycling, skiing exercise (jumping back and forth), jumping rope, push-up, jumping up and down, sprinting or pushing a wall can help get rid of belly fat that is the most dangerous type of fat even for people whose weight is normal.

If you’ve been sedentary, Berg warns you should not engage in high intensity interval training, nor should you exercise vigorously if you’re tired.

For people who aren’t physically fit, Berg advises starting with a simple walking program to gradually increase your exercise tolerance. Speak with your doctor first if you have any health conditions or haven’t been exercising.

Berg seems to especially like hopping exercises that engage the whole body. The idea is to use large muscle groups to stimulate growth hormone and burn fat in the abdomen. Hopping engages the large muscles in the legs and is aerobic. It's important to start out small. Berg says you can start by using your stairs at home or just a small platform.

Interval training is anti-aging because it releases hormones that help cells in the body rejuvenate. Dr. Berg says it’s the best way to burn belly fat. Human growth hormone (HGH) is released in response to exercise. Growth hormone has many roles in the body including muscle building, collagen turnover and overall increased fat metabolism.
