Man with 100 pound scrotum seeks help to fund surgery
A man in Nevada is trying to raise one million dollars to have surgery for his 100 pound scrotum. Following an injury to the scrotal sac that surrounds the testicles in 2008, the Nevada resident, Wesley Warren, Jr. has had pain and mobility problems from a rare condition called lymphedema.
Lymphedema happens when the glands that drain fluid become blocked. A common cause is from parasites that deposit worms blocking the lymphatic drainage system in the body. Parasitic infection is more likely to occur in the tropics than in Nevada and physicians have ruled out infectious cause.
It all started when the man rolled over in bed, catching his scrotum with his legs. His scrotal sac swelled immediately and physicians treated him with antibiotics to no avail. He eventually applied for disability, saying the condition makes it difficult to get around. He says he rarely goes out and is depressed daily.
According to Gawker.com, Warren said,
"I never felt such pain. It was like a shooting pain through my entire body. When it stopped, it was like a huge tractor trailer went off the top of me. I think it ruined my lymph nodes down there."
He likens his condition to a "Two-headed human spectacle that traveled around the circuses 100 years ago.”
Wesley Warren Jr. recently appeared on the Howard Stern show in hopes of raising the million dollars needed for surgery, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Doctors plan to remove the tissue around the scrotum. Next they would completely remove the scrotum and then reconstruct the area with new tissue.
Warren says he can't urinate normally. He “dribbles” because his penis is so retracted
Though he's been to several specialists, no one has been able to help. His only option now is surgery, but he has no source of funding.
At one point Warren was told by a physician that would have to have his penis and testicles removed.
Warren said, "Basically, he was telling me there was a good chance that I would be castrated and have to go to the bathroom through a tube for the rest of my life ... I really would like to have a relationship with a woman. I should be in the prime of my life right now."
Without money for the surgery, Mr. Warren will have to continue to live with his 100 pound scrotum. Not even Medicaid in Nevada could pick up the one million dollar surgery tab. You can donate money at [email protected]
