Seafood Choice Update from Monterey Bay Aquarium

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has published their list of seafood choices for sustainability and human health. Wild caught salmon, Alaskan to be exact, tops the list as one of the best seafood choices. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program offers consumers "Best Choices," "Good Alternatives," and which seafood should be avoided.

The goal of Seafood Watch is to keep our oceans healthy, by raising consumer awareness about our ocean’s sustainability and the risk to human health from making the wrong seafood choices.

According to the website, “Seafood Watch raises consumer awareness through our pocket guides, website, mobile applications and outreach efforts. We encourage restaurants, distributors and seafood purveyors to purchase from sustainable sources. Seafood Watch recommendations are science-based, peer reviewed, and use ecosystem-based criteria”. The vision of sustainability is directed toward buying and consuming seafood that is fished or farmed with a focus on environmental impact and human health.
