Jennifer Hudson has risen from unknown finalist on the 2004 season of American Idol, to un-stoppable superstar diva. The multi-talented 34 year old singer, actress, spokesperson and author has won 37 awards in her relatively short career, including a Grammy for the title song, “Love You I Do” from the “Dreamgirls” track in the category of Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. The song became Hudson's first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot Adult R&B Airplay chart. Hudson also won a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Dream Girls”.

However, she may be most proud of helping other people achieve their dream of losing weight. Hudson was overweight most of her life and once in the limelight was criticized in the tabloids for her weight. But that wasn’t the reason for her decision to lose weight. Rather it was while she was pregnant with her son, David Daniel Otunga, Jr, who was born in August 2009 that Hudson made the conscious decision to lose weight in order to set a good example. Love, health and her son were the catalysts that helped her stay strong and lose the pounds.

In 2010, Hudson became the spokesperson for Weight Watchers and lost 56 pounds, deciding that was all she wanted to lose. Then in February, 2011 she appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and revealed she had lost a total of 80 pounds. Hudson detailed her weight loss journey in her 2012 autobiography, I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down.

Jennifer Hudson has an amazing and inspirational story. She is not one to be defeated, especially by food, and has helped her family, all 175 of them, lose weight too, an astounding 1700 pounds, which inspired Weight Watchers to open the Jennifer Hudson Center. It has been years since she lost the weight and has also kept it off.

“If it’s too much, I just get rid of it,” says Hudson, “but I make sure to watch what I put in my body. And I make sure I know what it is. It’s all about portions, for the most part. I just take care of myself in that way, being more conscious. I don’t work out a lot, but I do like to be active. Simple as that.”

Despite her determination to maintain her weight, she does not restrict any certain food, but does bake rather than fry and allows herself her one weakness – chocolate. “I always have to have chocolate around,” she says, “It’s my cigarette. I don’t smoke, but it calms me so well.”
