Concern About a Chemical Used in Baby Bottles And Metal Cans

The American Academy of Pediatrics has just issued a warning to all of us who are members that an advisory body to the FDA has concerns about the safety of bisphenol (BPA).

This is a chemical used in many hard plastic products. This includes baby bottles and the lining of metal cans, including infant formula cans.

It is hard to believe that parents now have something else to worry about. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that parents should discuss this problem with their family doctors or pediatricians.

The food supplies in China still are a cause of concern. Now the Chinese government is taking major steps to close farms and plants that had added the chemical, melamine, to their animal feeds or to milk and milk products.

Once again, it is wise to check labels to be sure that the food products you buy do not come from China until this problem is resolved.
