Daily TV Hours Linked To Percentage Of Obesity

The health of our kids is at risk as the children watch lots of TV and spend many hours on the web. This study shows how the TV and Web hours go in parallel with the percentage of obesity that our kids gain.

Most research today tells us that the more TV we watch, the more likely it is that we are overweight or obese. We are constantly encouraged to replace television time with exercise and get our youth more involved in activities. And studies prove that there is a good reason for this.

Anti-fat Hormones May Fight Obesity By Controling Appetite

A substance found in the small intestine may be the appetite suppressant the world is waiting for to fight obesity and help you to keep the extra weight off. The molecule, N-Acylphosphatidylethanolamine (NAPE) is produced when fatty foods are ingested. NAPE is carried to the brain where it acts as a feedback loop and tells the brain to shut down eating.

The Cause Of Obesity May Be Decreased Taste Sensitivity

Eating processed foods full of fat and sugar can decrease our sensitivity to taste, perhaps causing a vicious cycle that makes us eat more and become obese. The findings come from Penn State researchers, Andras Hajnal, associate professor of neural and behavioral sciences at Penn State College of Medicine and his colleague Peter Kovacs, a post-doctoral fellow.

Past studies show that obese people have decreased taste sensitivity to sweets. The new research studied the effects of specific taste differences that might occur between obese and lean people.

Fast Food TV Ad Ban Can Reverse Childhood Obesity

This is the largest study in its kind that offer to ban TV fast food advertising to reverse childhood obesity trends.

A ban on fast food advertisements in the United States could reduce the number of overweight children by as much as 18 percent, according to a new study being published this month in the Journal of Law and Economics. The study also reports that eliminating the tax deductibility associated with television advertising would result in a reduction of childhood obesity, though in smaller numbers.

Triglyceride Levels May Be Linked To Obesity

A new 30-year analysis of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database conducted by the National Lipid Association (NLA) indicates that while Americans are doing a better job of managing LDL or "bad" cholesterol, the percentage of adults with high triglycerides, a blood fat linked to heart disease, has doubled, leaving many people at risk for potentially life-threatening events such as heart attack or stroke. Results of the analysis were presented today at the American Heart Association's Annual Scientific Sessions in New Orleans.

Drugmakers stop studies on two diet pills

The possibility of psychiatric side effects may be to blame for the demise of two diet drugs designed for obesity treatment. French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis said it’s stopping all research on Accomplia - a diet drug sold in Europe. Just a few hours later, Pfizer Inc. announced it’s ending research on an experimental weight-loss drug in the same class.

Maternal Obesity Can Lead To Adult-Onset Obesity

Researchers at the University at Buffalo have found that fetuses of obese mother rats were programmed in utero to develop obesity in adulthood.

Moreover, they have shown for the first time that the metabolic programming occurs in the fetal hypothalamus, the area of the brain responsible for maintaining the body's energy homeostasis (body weight) throughout life.
