Nursing Care And Faith
In a bold move to establish a clear link between nursing care and faith integration, Colorado Christian University's College of Adult and Graduate Studies starts new nursing program in Western Colorado.
The Colorado Board of Nursing has given approval for CCU to offer a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Advanced Placement Nursing Program. The program begins immediately and applications are being accepted for the fall 2007 semester. Classes will be held in CCU's newly relocated Western Colorado Center near the Mesa Mall -- a central hub of activity and growth in Grand Junction -- and at the Delta-Montrose Technical College in Delta, Colorado.
In launching the program, CCU is responding to a pressing need that has grown over recent years. Regional population growth and expanded opportunities for healthcare have increased demand for nursing professionals throughout Western Colorado. The state now ranks fifth nationwide in largest need for qualified nurses. CCU has worked with the local healthcare community and other resources to develop educational options for adult students to advance their nursing careers. After successful completion of the University's program, students will be eligible to sit for their Registered Nurse (RN) licensure exams.
"With every indication pointing to this shortage of nurses growing worse in years ahead, Colorado Christian University will do all that we can to prepare outstanding students and professionals to fulfill this crucial need," CCU President Bill Armstrong stated. "Nursing is a noble calling, a ministry, a way to show the love of Christ in giving care to those suffering from illness or trauma."
Armstrong commented that CCU is also pursuing accreditation through the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
"Historically, Western Colorado has been fortunate in its ability to meet community healthcare needs," stated Janice Holvoet, Coordinator of Health Programs Development and Nursing at CCU. "However, the strain of growth in the Grand Valley and surrounding areas will soon surpass this ability."
Looking to the future, CCU hopes to offer more options for students including international clinical experiences, nursing certificates, and bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing.
