A woman in California got arrested for performing illegal abortions without having a doctor's license.

An investigation by San Diego County district attorney lasted a year and finally arrested 48 years old Bertha Pinedo Bugarin, who was never issued a license, but was advertising herself as a doctor and performing illegal abortions and risking innocent women's health.

Bugarin is charged on 10 felonies and is being held on $500000 bail. Currently California court is now discussing the case and if she is convicted, she will be jailed for about nine years.

"The only way to stop someone like Bugarin from hurting people is to put her in jail, because she obviously has no respect for the law or for the lives of the women she seeks to exploit," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "We thank God that Bugarin is being brought to justice. We have worked for years, along with the faithful pro-lifers in San Diego, to close her shop of horrors, and now it looks like those prayers are being answered."

Bertha Pinedo Bugarin was running a clinic of her own in Chula Vista. She was mainly working with Spanish speaking people and giving advertisements on Spanish language TV channel. Bugarin was regularly performing abortions in her own clinic and also providing with similar 'services' in other clinics located in southern California. She was also found practice prescription drugs again without having a license.

The latest abortions Bertha performed were in March and April 2008 in her own clinic. Investigation found proof on 9 abortion performed by her with one case of serious health complication in a woman who was later hospitalized and another women who passed the abortion procedure twice, because the first one was not successful.

Bertha Pinedo Bugarin was charging $500 for each abortion and was risking women's health. Women, who had no proper information about if this 'doctor' was licensed or no, simply trusted her, because she was actively advertising herself as a doctor.
