The Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) and the Kentucky Public Health Association (KPHA) are preparing for Public Health Week in Kentucky with a gubernatorial proclamation and the association's annual conference in Louisville.

Public Health Week and the KPHA Educational Conference are set for March 26-30. The state educational conference is set for March 26-29 at the Executive Inn West in Louisville.

"In some way, public health touches everyone every day in Kentucky. We are working hard to make our infrastructure even stronger, including ongoing projects to improve many of our facilities across the state, in addition to establishing six Diabetes Centers of Excellence in Kentucky," said William Hacker, M.D., Health and Family Services' acting undersecretary for health and public health commissioner. "We hope this week will serve as an opportunity for the public to learn more about the vital role of public health in Kentucky."
The annual conference draws health experts who meet to review Kentucky's progress and learn more about ongoing projects in the commonwealth.

" "For citizens, related industry and public heath professionals, stakeholders and others interested in public health, this conference will be second to none," said Guy Delius, KPHA president-elect and program chair. "This will bring professionals from across the commonwealth together to discuss the health status of Kentucky and identify means to help further improve conditions, programs and systems that relate to public health, particularly prevention."

More than 100 speakers, ranging from university students and faculty to renowned scientists, will address conference attendees on a variety of topics. Public health administration, nutrition, public health, nursing, epidemiology, environmental health, community health planning, home health, administrative support and clinical and community services will be among the topics addressed.

The 2008 gubernatorial candidates have been invited to attend to share their views on public health in Kentucky.
