Healthy Aging
Newly released book seeks to educate baby boomers on healthy aging.
Robert Palmer, M.D., Section Head of Geriatric Medicine at Cleveland Clinic, has drawn upon decades of experience treating the medical and psychological issues of aging to publish Age Well, a book just released by Cleveland Clinic Press which offers guidance for healthy aging.
"While everyone wants to age gracefully, many people don't know where to start," Dr. Palmer says. "Most people assume they have no control over the aging process, but the reality is you can plan for age-related health changes the way you plan financially for retirement. Actively planning is the key to living well in your senior years."
Claiming there's no "magic formula" for optimal aging, Dr. Palmer writes that aging well has nothing to do with wrinkle-free skin but rather one's ability to function, remain independent, mobile and cognitively sound.
Age Well provides explanations for the natural changes that occur during the aging process, educating readers on how the body ages and providing insight especially helpful for those seeking to protect and preserve their health and the health of loved ones. In his book, Dr. Palmer also covers the biology of aging, the aging brain and nervous system, senior sexuality, eating for life, weight management and making sense of your senses.
Priced at $14.95, Age Well is available at national book sellers including Barnes & Noble, Borders and Amazon.com.
