Medicare, the nation's affordable health insurance program, may soon add HIV screening to its covered list of preventive services. U.S. Health Department today announced a new proposal that would cover Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection screening for Medicare beneficiaries who are at increased risk for the infection, including women who are pregnant and Medicare beneficiaries of any age who voluntarily request the service.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced that 13 states are the recipients of $70.9 million in grants. The monies are to be used to support the expansion of health insurance coverage for the uninsured populations in the awarded states.
