Dental Insurance

Dental insurance is now available when consumers purchase the HumanaOne individual health insurance plan. The optional dental benefit, insured by HumanaDental Insurance Company, a dental insurance subsidiary of Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), includes coverage similar to that offered through group dental plans, plus cosmetic coverage of teeth whitening in most states.

"Dental and medical benefits complement one another because preventive dental care is important for overall health and well-being," said Tod Zacharias, president of HumanaOne. "In fact, regular dental checkups can provide early warning of certain medical conditions, leading to medical cost savings. With that in mind, we've designed a dental benefit to help keep people looking good and feeling good, while making it easy and affordable to add dental benefits to individual medical coverage."

HumanaOne's new, optional dental benefit fully covers preventive care, such as oral exams, routine cleanings and X-rays, with no deductible or waiting period. The benefit also covers half the cost of basic and major services like fillings, extractions, endodontics and periodontics, with a $50 individual deductible and $150 family deductible on such services, as well as a $1,000 annual maximum benefit. Teeth whitening and prescribed bleaching services are included as basic services in most states.

Humana designed the dental option to be easy to use and easy to apply for. With HumanaOne's dental benefit, consumers can visit any dentist, but can save up to 30-percent on out-of-pocket costs when they visit one of the more than 70,000 dentist locations comprising HumanaDental's national PPO network, one of the largest dental PPO networks available. If approved for medical coverage, applicants are automatically approved for dental coverage as well, through HumanaOne's simple telephone application process.

HumanaOne's optional dental benefit is now available in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin. Humana plans to introduce the option June 1, 2005 in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Tennessee and Ohio.
