The number of Albertans with coverage under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan increased three per cent in 2006/07, with 84 per cent of the 3.38-million covered Albertans receiving at least one health service paid for under the plan last year.
These and other statistics are contained in the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan Statistical Supplement 2006/07, produced by Alberta Health and Wellness. The document is produced as a supplement to the Ministry's Annual Report.
Other interesting statistics for 2006/07 contained in the report include:
* 24 per cent of Albertans paid reduced premiums or were exempt from paying premiums.
* The number of physicians in Alberta increased 21 per cent in the last four years.
* A total of $1.6 billion was paid in fee-for-service to Alberta physicians and allied health practitioners - a six per cent increase over 2005/06.
* Average annual fee-for-service payment was $266,347 for physicians and $335,770 for specialists.
* Of the 5,850 physicians in Alberta - 123 received more than $1 million in gross payments, and 20 received more than $2 million from Alberta Health Care Insurance.
