Cosmetic surgery industry has not been exempt from the current economic downturn. Almost all cosmetic surgeons (95.9%) were concerned about the economic downturn in the U.S. and about eight in ten (79.3%) cosmetic surgeons have already been affected.

Ipsen (Paris:IPN) announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided notification that Reloxin® (botulinum toxin of type A) has been extended to April 13, 2009. The FDA did not issue any specific request on the occasion of this extension. The application is for approval to market Reloxin as a wrinkle-fighting injectible drug for aesthetic indications (glabellar lines).

In a 22-hour near total face transplant procedure, a team of eight surgeons from the Cleveland Clinic replaced 80 percent of a trauma patient’s face – essentially transplanting the full face except her upper eyelids, forehead, lower lip, and chin. This is so far the largest and most complex face transplant in the world.
