Interesting enough, we didn't plan this pregnancy but it could not have been more wanted!

My name is Michelle and my boyfriend's name is Sylvain. I am 28-years-old and Sylvain is 30. We live in a small community in Quebec, Canada. Actually, we live in a very remote area. We built our first home this summer facing a private lake. It is our dream home and we planned everything from scratch! We moved in at the end of July this year and to our surprise, we conceived our first child around August 14th, 2001.

We were visiting Sylvain's family in New Brunswick, Canada for a long weekend in September when I decided to take a pregnancy test. I had missed my period and I was terribly sick during our 10-hour drive (I never get car sick). It was 4:30 in the morning September 1st when I couldn't hold myself any longer from going to the bathroom so I decided to take the test with me. All this time, Sylvain had no idea I bought a test and had missed my period...

I took the test and the lines turned blue right away -- even before the time limit. I looked in the mirror and started to cry. I couldn't believe that I was pregnant! I was very nervous and excited to tell Sylvain! This was the biggest news I will ever share with him! Ever! I went back to the bedroom that he grew up in where he was sound asleep. He had no idea how much this news was going to change his life! And, what a place to give him this incredible news! He has had many life changing events happen in this very room, and this one will top them all, I'm sure!

I woke him up and said, "Sylvain, I have to talk to you." He said, "What? I was sleeping you know?" I told him I took a pregnancy test and that it was positive! He didn't react at first and then he rolled over and held me and said that he is very happy, nervous, and very scared! How cute, eh?

I am now 5 1/2 months pregnant and we are still very nervous and scared of the unknown of this entire experience and of what is to come! However, I love being pregnant! It is such a beautiful experience, one that every woman should go through in her life!

We found out two weeks ago that we are having a girl and that her due date is May 7th, 2002. Sylvain is ecstatic, as am I! As French Canadians, we have chosen a French name for our daughter, Jaelle. Very different but we absolutely love it! Our families are very happy for us and anxious to see her little face!

The reason I wanted to share my story is to tell a person that even though things in life are not always planned, there is a reason for events to unfold the way they do. I am not a truly religious person, however I do believe that there is something or someone out there that guides us on our missions in life. Sylvain and I have only been together for 2 years and our lives seemed to be very hectic and not much time to slow down. This is why we built our home in a quiet and remote place surrounded by nature for us to rejuvenate our souls. Now we have been given this miracle of carrying Jaelle and raising her in this wonderful environment. She chose us as her parents, and there is a reason for that. She has her reasons and one day maybe she will tell us!

Life always has an interesting way of unfolding to give us signs to make the right choices and decisions. During the construction, we were a little careless in our lovemaking and did not protect ourselves for some strange reason. It was meant to be! We have something to learn from this pregnancy as well as our journey becoming parents. We couldn't be more overjoyed and anxious to meet our daughter face-to-face! We are very excited and very nervous!
