Practicing Transcendental Meditation was shown in a nine year study to reduce risk of stroke, heart attack and death among a group of participants with known coronary artery disease. The technique also significantly lowered blood pressure in addition to reducing the risk of cardiovascular events, compared to a control group. Transcendental Meditation can be easily learned, and practiced daily.

UNC Charlotte researchers have found that brief period of meditation, practiced daily, can significantly reduce perception of pain. Past studies have shown that mindful meditation for treating pain requires extensive study and practice. The new findings show that taking twenty minutes a day to meditate can have lasting effects for helping patients cope with chronic pain. The technique can be learned quickly on the internet, making the intervention accessible and affordable. The findings are described as "robust" by the study authors.
