The purpose of the MEDICAL LEMON PETITION is to require that informed consent become a reality and that medical practitioners, as well as their vendors, provide documentation and videos to educate their patients and caretakers (i.e., family, friends, etc.) on the procedures and potential results of their procedures so that informed decisions can be made as to whether the patient wishes to endure the procedure and its results.

It is also necessary that medical practitioners be held accountable for performing improper procedures, demonstrating inept actions, and not providing qualified information to the patient. You have the right to know what you're buying and the right to be part of the procedures involving your own life and physical well-being.

The point is that, in all cases, it is necessary that the patient be fully informed of any procedures, their status, as well as the hardware, if any, that will be used in any procedure. With the medical malpractice situation in Nevada, individuals have no recourse for cases where the practitioner exists in the protected class of the medical community. Additionally, practitioners are not required to provide full disclosure to the patient. However, understand that it is imperative that you take it upon yourself to know what you're getting into and ensure that your practitioner is qualified to provide the desired procedure.

We've posted a version of the petition at www.petitiononline.com/ml040308/petition.html.
