Walking Shoes and Health

Health Experts say that walking is very good for your health. Walking from and to school is good for teen health. Walking is good for the mind and walking becomes even better in the light of today's risking gas prices. Cheap gas prices are hard to find and people are taking out their walking shoes and walk more.

I live in a small town in North Carolina, where people generally walk only for fitness. When I was new in the town I tried to walk to my work and walk back to my house. I enjoyed walking and the distance was only one mile. However, drivers would look at me with strange eyes as if my drivers license was taken away from me. I understand them, it is strange to see a walking person in the town without walking shoes. People only walk for fitness and they are properly dressed, including having on the walking shoes. Since, I was walking to work I had dressed up in a business manner and had no walking shoes, but comfortable dress shoes.

Eventually I gave up and started driving as others do. My health deteriorated over time and due to the sedentary lifestyle lower back pain started killing me. The rescue came from the rising gas prices.

For few days there was no gas in our local gas stations and as a parent of a small child, I resumed my walking to and from work to preserver some gas for grocery shopping and in case of an emergency (thank God there was none). Thinking this is (in dress shoes) only temporary; I realized how much I enjoyed this walking on sunshine and how great my personal health felt one week after I started this two miles a day walking or one might call it jogging. People still look at me, and some nice friends even offer to give me a ride, however, while appreciating the offers I kindly refuse them and stress that I am doing this for my health and feel great due to this daily walking.

Happiness and health may be found in simple things. Simplified lifestyle and refusal of instant gratification may uplift one's soul and bring greater joy. After this daily walking, I have realized that I enjoy driving my car (despite the rising gas prices) more: something that I may have taken for granted.

Walking, for fitness or for work, with walking shoes or dress shoes should be done more often and regularly. It should be part of our lifestyle that will help us to stay away from the various diseases easily control the weight and strengthen the body's power.
