Don't Drive While Having Heart Attack Symptoms

If you are experiencing heart attack symptoms, do not drive yourself to the emergency room.

Clarian Cardiovascular is reminding Hoosiers of this simple, but smart advice, and encouraging them to evaluate their risk for heart failure or disease.

Since a heart attack can mean the difference between life and death, every second counts. In the event of a heart attack, the best decision is to call 9-1-1. This vital decision offers the fastest way to receive lifesaving treatment.

"There are several new medications and treatments that must be administered relatively quickly after the attack to be effective," said Dr. Ed Bartkus, EMS medical director with Clarian Health.

"The faster a patient arrives at the hospital, the better. It's simple advice, but seconds can literally mean the difference between recovery versus a permanent disability or even death."
