    When it comes to artificial sweeteners and sugar, your body cannot tell the difference, and so using low- and no-calorie sweeteners do not help weight loss. That’s the word from Professor Soraya Shirazi-Beechey at the University of Liverpool.

    In a FDA news release today, the administration announced that it is investigating the reports of liver damage in several people who have taken the only FDA approved weight loss OTC drug alli. The FDA stated that it has received 32 reports of liver damage from alli between 1999 and 2008.

    Research published online in The FASEB Journal suggests that eating a high fat diet can quickly lead to laziness. In case that is not enough to inspire healthier eating, the study always shows that high fat foods can impair memory in just a few days. The new study showed that after just ten days of consuming a high fat diet, rats exercised poorly, and showed signs of short term memory loss.

    A recent study of more than 100 overweight or obese individuals found that Irvingia gabonensis facilitates weight loss and lowers cholesterol. This study is the latest of several that have shown that this West African plant promotes loss of body weight, but it is the first double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial to show that it lowers weight and cholesterol.
