Coffee Consumption

Do you rely on coffee each morning to jump-start your day?

Caffeine is a stimulant that can fight fatigue, enhance mood and boost performance, but what impact does coffee have on health?

For most healthy adults, moderate amounts of caffeine, about two cups of coffee, pose no health problems. However, caffeine can have a diuretic effect, increasing water loss through urination. Therefore, it is not something you want to consume in excess.

Caffeine is found in greatest amounts in coffee and over-the-counter drugs, but it is also found in tea, small amounts of chocolate and soft drinks.

Determine how much caffeine is safe for you by checking with your physician or registered dietitian and keeping track of how much coffee you consume.
