Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa made good on a campaign promise regarding to prescription medications. Citizens of Los Angeles will now have a prescription-drug discount program.

Villaraigosa made the campaign promise five years ago while running for mayor. City bureaucracy was cited as the reason it took so long to make happen.

Los Angeles has contracted with Ohio-based Envision Pharmaceutical Services. Envision will negotiate with pharmaceutical companies to obtain lower prices for residents who carry discount cards. The discounts will be available at about 1,500 Los Angeles pharmacies that participate in Envision's network. It is estimated the discounts will range from 5% to 40% depending on the medicine.

The discount drug program is free to participants. There are no age, income or residency restrictions. City residents will receive the paper discount cards in their Department of Water and Power bills. The discount cards may be printed online at http://forlarx.com.

The card can be used anywhere in California or in America. The big savings are only guaranteed in LA, but there will be savings when the card is used anywhere. This can help families who need to use the card while on vacation or business travel.
